GMAC Insurance provides Loss Prevention and Loss Control services to its insured dealers at no cost. Typically, the Loss Prevention Department performs over 700 individual dealership inspections a year.

In addition, GMAC Insurance Loss Prevention maintains a "library" of bulletins and advisories incorporating "best practices" to help dealerships avoid losses to their inventories, demonstrators and other dealership owned vehicles. Loss prevention or control is at the heart of any successful insurance program. Avoiding losses is the surest way to keep insurance costs down, but it is not just rising insurance costs that can be controlled with loss prevention, it is the costs to an insured that are not covered by insurance that can be avoided. Some of those costs may be:

  • Insurance deductible expenses
    No matter the type of loss there is usually a deductible (a specific amount applied to the loss) that is not covered by insurance.
  • The loss of sales and customer goodwill.
    If a vehicle has been damaged and cannot be sold or delivered to a buyer it is possible that the sale will not be finalized and customer goodwill will be lost.
  • Loss of profit.
    Insurance will only reimburse the insured for a loss up to the amount of the wholesale value of a vehicle. The expected or the intended profit made on the sale of the vehicle is not insurable.

Therefore, avoiding a loss in the first place is the best way for an insured to avoid the costs associated with losses that cannot be covered. The GMAC Insurance Loss Prevention Department is available to help insured dealers avoid those losses.
